A Chiropodist is a primary healthcare professional practicing podiatric medicine in Ontario, specializing in assessment, management and prevention of diseases and disorders of the foot. An essential member of the inter-professional healthcare team, the Chiropodist is skilled in assessing the needs of their patients and managing both chronic and acute conditions affecting foot and lower limb function. Chiropodists are highly trained medical practitioners who are trained to treat injuries and other afflictions of the feet and lower limbs.

Your Santé Group HealthCare Chiropodist provides total toenail and skin care for the feet, performs toenail and soft tissue surgeries under local anesthetic by means of injection, and prescribes and fits patients with custom foot orthotics, Ankle Foot orthoses, medical compression devices and orthopaedic footwear. Your Santé Group HealthCare Chiropodist can also prescribe topical antibiotics and anti-inflammatories as required based upon your clinical condition.

Chiropodists are governed under the College of Chiropodists of Ontario and must pass comprehensive Board Exams as well as provincial licensing exams to earn their license to practice. For their degree, students study courses in medical science and must complete hospital-based residency programs. Chiropody is a 3 year, post-baccalaureate program.
